RootsTech Conference Day 3
With three days of back-to-back live events, connections, and expo hall access coming to a close, we took a moment to confer with community members and friends, Emma Cox and Tami Mize.
Each shared their perspective in ways we can take forward into our research and creative family history projects. Watch a couple of clips in the preview above ☝️ then dive into the full recordings below, 👇.
But wait!
We also have another clip from the conversations Robin Stewart and Lori Olson White had with vendors in the exhibit hall. In case you missed our earlier “Ride Along” posts, you can catch them all on the Projectkin RootsTech Ride Along center.
Live Sessions, Full Recordings
Emma Cox, Genealogist and host of Journeys into Genealogy and Projectkin’s monthly series, Emma Explores
During our conversation, Emma mentioned tips from past episodes of her podcast:
FamilySearch Country Experience Manager, Ariel McDonald-Smith talking about how to get the most from the RootsTalk conference
Family History Federation as a worldwide resource, then specific references to…
Graham Bandy at the West Surrey Family History Society and a mystery photo solved.
East Surrey Virtual Family History Fair (each January, plan for 2026!) with Hilary Blanford
DNA Painter “Places” feature from March 2025
Don’t miss Emma’s 100 episodes of Journeys into Genealogy and her 2025 preview.
Tami Mize, the ConferenceKeeper.org
Tami’s deep roots in this community and pay-it-forward generosity give her a unique perspective into the shifts and changes we notice at this annual conference. She’s participated in 14 of the last 15 RootsTech events and led or been involved with
National Genealogical Society (now home to ConferenceKeeper)
and new for 2025, the Branching Out Genealogy Podcast with Elizabeth Swanay O’Neal
Insights from conversations in the Expo Hall (sorted by vendor category):
There seem to be a number of new startups producing family history books. Among them (Expo Hall links, note some specials1):
Remento — with their addition of QR codes to capture media for audio and visual connections to loved ones.
Tami also mentioned Genealogy Genie developed by AI Group Innovations. Our discussion focused on tools built by genealogists for genealogists.
Last Peek at the Expo Hall 👀
Finally, a last clip of show-floor interviews by the dynamic duo of my Mission: Genealogy co-founder, Robin Stewart and ace reporter, Lori Olson White. This clip features Tina Lafreniere co-founder at Related Faces sharing an explanation of how their software developed by and for genealogists is different — this is an example of the perspective Emma was sharing.
Stay tuned for more of Robin & Lori’s excellent adventure in the expo hall in an upcoming issue of Genealogy Matters’ fabulous GenStack newsletter.
