A few minutes with
is always a hoot. Today, we caught her packing for her four-hour drive tomorrow through the mountain passes of Wyoming and into the basin of the Great Salt Lake where she’ll attend the RootsTech conference at the Salt Palace convention center in SLC.Lori is behind two delightful publications:
and . Today's talk she shared what she considers her lane, “Little stories with a really big impact.” In episodic nuggets, she pulls you along to explore true stories she’s found in newspaper clippings and community halls. Her focus is on the lost stories people leave behind. From a genealogical narrative, she focuses on the historical, political, cultural — even culinary elements that informed the story. In each she’s looking for the heart of the story. As a writer, you put everything into this soup, everything goes in and then it boils around and then the story comes out.
At RootsTech
At RootsTech, Lori will attend classes and walk the expo hall while packing her “stories on the side.” She’s already lined up interviews and visits to talk to vendors in areas ranging from DNA to Facial Recognition.
She’s also planning to visit with as many genealogy societies as she can possibly can. They’re all tied to a special idea she’s incubating now. Subscribers will learn more about that in the weeks and months after the show.
