Today’s session was a special Saturday edition of my weekly Projectkin update, focusing on the upcoming RootsTech Ride Along I’m staging with my copilot in
, . Robin helped me kick off the 10-episode series with a little review of what we’re up to.Sharing the Plan
I shared two posts proposing the idea (see them at Projectkin.org/rootstech,) then welcomed a ride-along cohort of active participants, including:
We’ll have four on site: Robin,
, , and . Each will participate by sharing insights and recordings then joining us for live sessions.Plus, twenty or so joining with Barbara in the “ride-along crew”: Watch for live sessions featuring a few of them,
, , . They’ll be joining the live sessions and sharing their insights in notes, posts, and comments.

The “RootsTech Ride Along” Starts Here
In addition to our roles as collaborators here on Mission: Genealogy, each of us has our own Substack publications, Genealogy Matters and theProjectkin Community Forum. We will use this collaboration to share our planned “RootsTech Ride Along” with as wide a group as possible.
The key to our approach is that by using live video and chat, we’ll connect our onsite members in the remote community with those on site participating in the annual RootsTech conference. Live chat sessions give us a chance to come together each day to share and ask questions live. Circulating these programs as recordings with transcripts and resources gives us a way to follow up on questions with details and citations. And who among us doesn’t love citations?

Relatives at RootsTech
One thing we talked about briefly during our short Live session today was Relatives at RootsTech. I’ve started making a list of other members’ RootsTech registration names to see how we might be connected. Perhaps you’re doing that too? Here’s a question:
I am thinking about creating a form where members could share a pairing of their Substack and RootsTech registration names. We can then collaborate on details learned about shared ancestors without directly sharing email addresses.
My goal is to create a safe place to connect and possibly discuss shared ancestors. What do you think? Let me know with a simple Yes or No vote. If I get at least 12 people expressing an interest in the next week, I’ll create the form and find a place to share the results. Note that Relatives at RootsTech ends April 11, 2025.
