🙋‍♀️A Question: Office Hours Nov-12

Ahead of this next Office Hours session, we would like to get your insights on the topics that you think would be most helpful to start with a presentation on, and which you'd like to discuss.

Each month,

hosts a community office hours session that lets us share tips & tricks we’ve learned and ask questions about features and best practices. We’ve found from previous months that it’s been helpful to start out with a short presentation and/or demo on a functionality a lot of people have wondered about.

We’ll record that part of the discussion but turn the recording off after that so that everyone can feel comfortable asking questions. We’ll go around the Zoom giving everyone a chance to introduce themselves and share Substack discoveries and/or questions or topics. If this month is like most, we won’t know all of the answers but with a little research, we can share answers later with the recording.

The idea is to balance shared tips with inquiries and creativity. To get us started, Robin and I recorded this brief chat describing four topic ideas we thought of covering.

Do you have a first-choice preference?

Kindly respond to the poll as soon as you can, (or by Sunday, Nov. 10, at noon Pacific time) so that Barbara can have a presentation ready by Tuesday morning, Nov. 12.

Are you new here and curious about how these Office Hours work? No problem. You can review our notes and recordings from previous events in the Office Hours section. As you’ll soon see, we’re all figuring this out. Sometimes, it’s just about understanding how features work. Most of the time, we compare notes to develop best practices we can recommend.

Nifty new resources

Here are a couple of new tools that you might find helpful:

  1. There’s a new calendar linked to the

    publication: MissionGenealogy.org/events.

    • It’s a filtered view of our events posted to the Projectkin calendar. (Sharing it keeps our costs down.)

  2. If you participate in the Genealogy Chat hours on platforms like X, Bluesky, Threads, or Mastodon, you might appreciate the nifty new listing we’ve compiled of social media chat threads. You’ll find it at MissionGenealogy.org/connections.

    • Did we miss any? Let us know in the comments.

    • For the Office Hours discussion: Should we consider a scheduled-hour chat like that on Substack?

  3. In case you missed it, we’ve doubled down on the

Community Recommendations page because it’s so darn useful.

    • If you’re new to Substack, exploring the recommendations of others who are clearly in the Family History and Genealogy space can be a great way to get started!

    • Visit MissionGenealogy.org/community to see the updated list in a nifty new database format that

      started us on.

  4. Finally, in case you missed it, there’s a nifty new

    Podcast episode out featuring :

That’s probably enough to get started. I can’t wait to reconnect. Remember, starting in January we’ll be combining Office Hours and Roundtable sessions and offering two each month at reasonable times for members in the Atlantic and Pacific regions. Till then 👋
