You've heard me talk about this "RootsTech Ride Along" well, we're packed and ready to go. Substack Live sessions will be hosted from the MissionGenealogy publication I share with Robin Stewart. Live streams will be shared here on Projectkin as well as on MissionGenealogy and Robin's publication, Genealogy Matters. Join us, won't you for our first pre-show live stream on Saturday at 1:30 PM Pacific Time. The full schedule in your local time is at Projectkin.org/events. See ya then! -
Barbara at Projectkin

In addition to our roles as collaborators here on

Mission: Genealogy
, each of us has our own Substack publications,
Genealogy Matters
and the
Projectkin Community Forum
. We will use this collaboration to share our planned “RootsTech Ride Along” with as wide a group as possible.

As described on Projectkin, the core idea was to use Substack Live to connect remote participants in their “easy-chairs” with community members at the conference1.

The idea resonated. Your response to the follow-up post was swift and enthusiastic. More than twenty of you signed up to participate.

Our Program Takes Shape

A few days later, our calendar was filled with ten live events over eight days. In each program, Barbara will host community members onsite and off. We begin the series in conversation with Robin on Saturday, March 1st, just as she prepares for her trip to Salt Lake.2 Three other members will join Robin at the Salt Palace, (

Lori Olson White
,
Kyla Bayang
and Tami Mize.) Our other four remote participants will join from their homes to share what they’ve they’ve discovered, found interesting, or learned: (Jennifer Jones,
Kathy Stone
,
Bill Moore
, and Emma Cox.)

Notice that of our ten short programs we have:

  • four programs on the days leading up to the show (Mar 1-5), and

  • six programs during the show, two each day (Mar 6-9).

To participate, Substack requires you to…

Subscribe to one of our three publications:

  • Mission: Genealogy
    (our collaboration)

  • Genealogy Matters
    (Robin’s)

  • Projectkin Community Forum
    (Barbara’s)

Log in to your account on the web or in Substack’s mobile app. When our program is live, you will receive a notification, and the live event will appear in your reading queue on your Substack.com/home page.

Was this post forwarded to you? We’d love to have you join. Drop your email here 👇 and we’ll be sure to include you.

To join the live stream…

Just tap, and you're in. That's it! Joining simply means watching the live video conversation and seeing the chat messages scroll by. From your computer or mobile device keyboard, you can join in to ask questions or share your enthusiasm with a ♡ button. It’s simple, but it lets the speakers know you’re there and paying attention. Your chat comments are not recorded with the video.

Tip: Barbara’s been using Substack live streams since January for a weekly update program for Projectkin. Live streams created a surprisingly fun way to connect with her membership. See the Projectkin event calendar for the next Projectkin event on March 9th.

If you’re new to Substack, this live event series creates a terrific way to get experience with the feature. The popular publication

Write • Build • Scale
wrote one of their Ultimate Guides to live streaming that might be helpful.

After the live program, watch for the video. Barbara will get the draft recording from Substack soon after the program concludes, add some edits and links, and share it from the Mission Genealogy account. On the show days, when we have two programs per day, I’ll bundle the two recordings into one video post. Robin and I will cross-post the video to our subscribers.

You should see one video post or cross-post per day. It could take me minutes to a few hours to produce the video post, depending on the edits needed.

RootsTech Insights Will Linger

In the days and weeks following the show, you’ll probably find yourself circling back to topics and insights gleaned from the show. Join us at our next

Mission: Genealogy
Gathering to discuss. We’ve scheduled two 90-minute sessions on the same day in the Americas the following week. See the calendar for your local time for either Atlantic or Pacific-friendly times.
