Office Hours: Using Substack for Family History
Substack is easy to use — until you're confused and frustrated. Join us on the 2nd Tuesday each month to compare notes on using Substack for family history and genealogy.
As Mission: Genealogy, we realized that one of the most helpful things we could do was to create a safe space to learn about using Substack.
So, we’re here for you. In a monthly, live “Office Hours” program, we’ll take questions and walk through areas that frequently trip people up.
We’ll do this for as long as possible, recording answers and demos for frequently asked questions. Your comments, questions, and suggestions on each post will help us help each other.
Like all platforms in active development, Substack is in constant flux. New features are rolled out daily or weekly, and others are updated or even removed. That’s just how modern platforms work. Keeping up takes work. Let’s roll up our sleeves and do this together.
Our first session: Tuesday, September 10, 2024 | “Atlantic” time
All Events Via Zoom (We’ll record the session to create an archive of quick answer sessions. If you’d like, we can pause recordings so you may ask questions privately.)
This first session will be scheduled for the convenience of our subscribers in the Atlantic1 region at:
10 AM PT, 1 PM ET, 6 PM BST, 19:00 CET
(If there's interest, an additional session can be scheduled for the Pacific region. Please request it here. )
To get you started, I’ve drawn from a recording I did back in January 2024 for my own
. I was new to Substack at the time and trying to anticipate issues that would confuse our members. I’ve trimmed it down to the useful bits to get us started.I hope you can join us for this event or a future event.
To address the needs of the global genealogy community from California,
turned to two-time slots for our events: Atlantic and Pacific. Each is designed for the convenience of two of the three 8-hour segments of the planet. (Only two, so far. We need to sleep. 😉) Based on “Summer” times in the Northern Hemisphere right now, these times are:Atlantic: 10 AM PT, 1 PM ET, 6 PM BST, 19:00 CET
Pacific: 4 PM PT, 7 PM ET, 9 AM AEST, 7 AM AWST, and 12 AM BST — Australia goes on Summer Time the last Sunday in September.
9am AEST is noon NZDT
I am indeed confused and frustrated. I've only been publishing for 18 days so I'm looking forward to your next get together on Zoom, Tuesday October 8th.
Many thanks Robin and Barbara for this opportunity.
