Today's Live video featured Deborah Carl of YourFamilyQuest as she shares her new Tips column for MissionGenealogy. It's a generous ethos where we help each other with shared challenges.
During the Chat, I mentioned Genearosity (don't ask me to pronounce it, but I love the word). Barbara was looking for the word to describe the way we feel when we share our family stories or discoveries. @carmelgalvin sent me the link to Jill Ballau's blog where she lists a bunch of new terms in her Geneadictionary. https://geneadictionary.wordpress.com/ I think the word we wanted was Geneajoy or Joynealogy (I can pronounce the second one and will probably start using it.)
Exactly!! Jennifer Jones (@TrackingDownTheFamily) sent me the link to Jill's GeneaDictionary (another marvelous portmanteau 🤭) too so I included it in the refreshed notes.
Barbara and Deborah, great job today. I thoroughly enjoyed your chat and it was very insightful for someone new to Substack and writing about family history like myself. So happy to have found this community and look forward to the next one!
Oh, you were so kind to join us. This was a first at this time slot, so how would anyone know to join us? I'm glad it's been helpful. You might find some of the recordings of our office hours helpful to you as well. Check them out at MissionGenealogy.org/office-hours
I was one of the people Deborah was talking about who was having trouble with footnotes. She generously told me about the function in Substack. It's a real game-changer.
Wow, and it's the perfect example of seeing someone else struggling and putting out a hand to lift them up. 🥰 We're building something pretty incredible here. It's all about looking out for each other. The ethos isn't new in the genealogy community; it's just that we finally have a platform where we can implement it better.

I am SO grateful to you Deborah for the hint about footnote. SO easy to use.
